No Confirmed COVID-19 Cases For 10 Days Now

Dominica’s total number of COVID-19 cases has remained at 16 with 8 persons recovered and sent home. National epidemiologist, Dr.Shaluddin Ahmed said at the press briefing of the Ministry of Health yesterday that it has been 10 days since Dominica has had a positive COVID-19 case.

According to him, Dominica is in phase 3 of the transmission process which is known as Cluster of Cases.

Ahmed said that the next step of action is community level testing through random selection of asymptomatic cases.
This will be done using the 50 PCR test kits and 300 rapid COVID-19 tests donated by Venezuela. The objective of such testing is to actively search for a case  that is otherwise undetectable.

Ahmed said that social distancing through lockdown is working and that this is the only way to break the chain of transmission of the Coronavirus which causes COVID-19.

In his concluding remarks, Ahmed said that we (general public) need to train our minds to see everyone as a potential carrier for this virus.
