Newly appointed Minister for Health, Wellness and New Health Investment, Honourable Dr Irving McIntyre, was introduced to his staff on Wednesday and was handed the reins of the ministry by his predecessor Honourable Dr Kenneth Darroux, who is now Minister for Foreign Affairs, International Affairs and Diaspora Affairs.
A well-loved general practitioner, Dr McIntyre is known for providing free clinics to patients in need at Morne Prosper, the Roseau Health Centre and Harlsbro Medical Centre. Prior to going into private practice full time, he served as Senior Medical Officer at the Princess Margaret Hospital’s Accident & Emergency Department from 1999 to 2010.
Dr McIntyre was received at his new ministry by Permanent Secretary Letitia Lestrade Wyke and Chief Medical Officer David Johnson. The minister was accompanied by the new Parliamentary Secretary Honourable Kent Edwards. That position was previously held by Ivor Stephenson.
