The Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit and some members of the Government were present in the Kalinago Territory to present housing and agricultural solutions to the Territory.
According to Reginald Severin, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing and chairperson of the event, there are multiple housing programs already in progress in the Territory. These are the EU Funded 15 Year Home Construction Program, the Sustainable Housing Solutions Precast Concrete Homes which is building about 40 -50 homes, Continuous Home Renovation and Sanitation Program targeting about 60 more homes for those living in tents, under tarpaulins and partially covered homes and the newly introduced Housing Revolution, the vision and brainchild of the Prime Minister. Under this project, many homes will be rebuilt and made more resilient. The Prime Minister suggests that even homes in the housing scheme may be rebuilt. He says that 262 homes should be built in the Territory during the next year.
Further, contracts were to be signed right after the ceremony for the Modernization of Traditional Crops Project of the Ministry of Agriculture. This project targets the improvement of Cassava, Bay Oil and Toloma facilities. There are plans to include resilient features and food safety interventions in the new facilities. Beneficiaries of the Modernization of Traditional Crops Project are Mr. Daniel Frederick, Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Francis, Mrs. Josephine Gage, Calibishie Cassava Processing Plant, and Janet Graham.
The Ministry of Agriculture has already confirmed the contractors to assist in the renovation of these projects.
