Dominica State College Students to Participate in the 2019 FIRST Global Challenge in Dubai

Within two months, five students from the Dominica State College Robotic Team, namely Krish Sharma, Kodie Jean- Jacques, Briana Laudat, Kieyah Lawrence and Charleson Gilbert used their creativity to engineer a robot to compete in the FIRST Global Challenge which will be held in Dubai from October 24-27. Their robot is capable of collecting and delivering objects, lifting itself and it is mobile. Their participation in the FIRST Global Challenge serves as a reminder of the real-world challenges related to cleaning up the world’s oceans.

The FIRST Global Challenge aims to address the world’s most critical environmental issues such as wastage of water and energy, sustainability, and pollution through a Global Robotics Competition. This annual competition seeks to encourage and empower youth with a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The event will assemble more than one thousand five hundred youth from over one hundred and ninety-one countries to collaborate, create and compete for a better future.

This is the third time Dominica is represented by students of the Dominica State College. The Dominica State College expresses thanks to The Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, The Government of the United Emirate of Dubai, FIRST Global, National Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, Discover Dominica Authority, Campbell’s Business Systems, friends and relatives of the Dominica State College Robotic Club, Ms. Beverly Leblanc, the Spice Centre, Akeem Lowe, and Yuri Jones.
