The National Cooperative Credit Union has officially launched the Cadence-Lypso Competition for 2019.
Chairman of the Board of Directors of the NCCU, Aylmer Irish said that this competition forms part of NCCU’s social responsibility and commitment to development and that the Credit Union is pleased to be the headline sponsor.DBS manager Cecil Joseph and The Sign Man vowed their support for the show as long as they are alive.
Chief Cultural Officer, Raymond Lawrence, congratulated the NCCU for promoting the cadence lypso and creole language. He said that the teaching of the creole language will be piloted at 19 primary schools on the island.
Dexter Ducreay gave an overview of the show. He said that this show will be one of a difference and that the band section component will not form part of the competition this year. However, a band from Guadeloupe with links from the village of Paix Bouche will grace the stage at the competition.
This innovative competition aims to keep Dominica’s musical history alive by engaging competitors and patrons in the fusion of Cadence music and Calypso.
