Emancipation celebration kicks off from July 26th to August 3rd. Among activities is the Golden Drum Awards to be held at the Alliance Francaise on Saturday 3rd August.
The awards are presented to outstanding individuals and groups who have contributed to the development of Culture for over twenty years. King Dice, nine-time Carnival Calypso King, Bouyon pioneers WCK Band, long-time music teacher Huguette St. Hillaire, Janette Azous Shillingford, Marvlyn Laronde, Joseph Paul and Paul Lewis.
The chief technical officer in the Ministry of Tourism, Roland Royer, said that it is important to give people their flowers while they are alive and to show appreciation for great work. He said that the award should serve as an encouragement to the recipients to make an even greater contribution towards the development of Culture.
