A group of three exceptional Dominican women rose to the occasion after Hurricane Maria to help their Homeland and continues to do so even today.
Shanita Scotland R.N, Anne-Marie Johnrose-Brown M.D, and Corinne Francis all saw the need to reach out and assist after Hurricane Maria. These driven women who are all directly involved in the health profession as a nurse, doctor and healthcare executive, formed the non- profit Medical Professionals on a Mission (MPOM) in December of 2017, after participating in medical mission trips to Dominica (as far back as Tropical Storm Erika) and seeing the great help needed there.
The purpose of MPOM is ‘to source medical supplies and equipment to supply the healthcare needs of the Caribbean Islands. To provide assistance to victims of natural and man-made disasters. Additionally, to organize mission trips with qualified healthcare professionals to provide clinical expertise and service to patients in collaboration with public and private healthcare organizations. The organization also aims to assist critical patients seeking medical treatment which is unavailable in their Island with the cost of treatment in other countries.’
The new nursing skills lab handed over to the Dominica State College on Wednesday was a donation of MPOM sponsored by Direct Relief and is a commitment project of the Clinton Global Initiative.
