L’information est parvenue aux pompiers à 7h18, signalant qu’un voilier s’était échoué sur les récifs de l’îlet Tête à l’anglais. Immédiatement, des navires de secours et des douanes se sont rendus sur le site.
Dans cette embarcation se trouvaient 26 personnes, à priori toutes originaires d’Haïti, selon les premiers témoignages recueillies par les forces de l’ordre. Les pompiers et les douanes se sont affairés à ramener les naufragés au port de Sainte-Rose.
Cela a pris plusieurs heures, puisque les dernières personnes qui se trouvaient à bord du voilier ont été récupérées vers 11h30.
À terre, ils ont été pris en charge, d’abord médicalement puisque certains d’entre eux ont été légèrement blessés dans cet échouage. Toutes ces victimes étaient en urgence relative, ce qui n’inspire pas d’inquiétude pour leur état de santé. Ces passagers clandestins passent ensuite par un processus d’enquête, afin de connaître les conditions de leur traversée et les raisons de cet échouage, puis viendront enfin les suites administratives.

The information reached the fire department at 7:18 am, signaling that a boat had run aground on the reef of the Tête à l’anglais island. Immediately, relief vessels and customs visited the site. In this boat were 26 people, apparently all from Haiti, according to the first testimonies collected by the police.
Firefighters and customs have been busy bringing the shipwrecked to the port of Sainte-Rose. It took several hours as the last people on board the boat were picked up around 11:30.
On land, they were taken care of, first medically since some of them were slightly injured in this stranding. All these victims were in relative urgency, which does not inspire concern for their state of health.
These stowaways then go through a process of investigation, to know the conditions of their crossing and the reasons for this beaching, then finally come the administrative consequences.
In the case of illegal immigration, the law provides for a procedure of removal to the country of origin.
