Jefferson Drigo, chairperson of the Police Welfare Association (PWA) is calling for better management of the police force. He says, “We have a serious challenge with the management of the police force, how the police force is being run. Too much friendship promotion, too much victimization, too much discrimination against certain people. Senior officers are being bypassed, we are appealing for improvement in the management of the police force.”
He says the morale of officers is at an all-time low. Some officers are involved in small enterprises after work but are being transferred far away from their homes to prevent them from succeeding in their private enterprises.
Also, the PWA would like to see a national security allowance for all sections of the force and better conditions at police stations. He says that at the traffic department, they are forced to deal with ‘rat and wood ants’ infestation. He said further that the PWA still has issues with the recently amended Police Insurance Act as some officers have in excess of 100 rest days prior to Hurricane Maria and can’t receive them.
The PWA is calling for a change in the management of the Police Force.
