KINGSTOWN, St Vincent — Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Power of Acres Agri, a Vincentian medicinal cannabis company, stated their position on the issue of remuneration to traditional cannabis farmers for their product.
“We are going to pay more than a fair wage, so they have time to work a nine to five job, five days a week, have family time. It would create some comfort for the traditional farmer in the legal medical cannabis industry,” Acres Agri CEO Power said.
This comes on the heels of certain statements and offers emanating from various quarters, which have caused consternation amongst traditional growers.
The farmers have stated their concerns on that issue, and according to Power, “We know what the traditional farmer faces right now. They have a difficult time… working in an illegal trade right now, we want to legitimise the trade so the traditional farmers would not have to worry about the legal aspects of what they are doing.”
Power pointed out that that where Acres Agri is going with the business is to rebuild a new agricultural industry in St Vincent and the Grenadines, to the benefit of everyone in the country.
“The plan is going to be a long-term plan and we are on a journey of 10 to 20 years of building this new industry.
