HAVANA, Cuba (ACN) — A memorandum of intent for the approval of a financing agreement and cooperation projects between Cuba and the European Union (EU), worth 61.5 million euros, was signed on Tuesday in Havana.
Stefano Manservisi, director general of cooperation and development of the European Commission, and Ileana Núñez Mordoche, deputy minister of foreign trade and foreign investment of the island, signed this document.
The memorandum aims to strengthen cooperation in the areas of food security, adaptation to climate change, renewable energy, culture and exchange of experiences, based on the development of joint projects.
In statements to the press, Manservisi said that this financing agreement is the result of what was discussed earlier, and therefore will mean support for the modernisation of the economy, and in particular underlined the success of the exchange program of experts and the two windows to facilitate investment and exports from Cuba.
As part of the agreement, the Transcultura project will be financed, which aims to reform the Convent of Santa Clara, in the capital, to teach Caribbean students about identity and cultural heritage, said the EU representative.
“There are 15 million,” he said, “destined to transform identity into something that unites peoples and builds peace and also to pay tribute to Havana’s Villa de San Cristóbal in view of its 500 years.”
