As part of Drug Awareness Month 2019, the Library hosted a songwriting competition under the theme: “Listen First – Listening to children and Youth is the first step to help them grow healthy and safe” where three participants competed.
On January 25th a prize-giving ceremony was held at the Portsmouth Secondary School. The winner was Vinyssa and Vinera Valerie with a song entitled: “Gone for good.” They received a cash prize of $650. Makana Victor of the Portsmouth Secondary School placed second while Cizanne Peter of Saints Johns Academy placed third.The competition was judged by Tim Durand, Ian Jackson, and Daryl Bobb.
A drug exhibition was also held by the Drug Prevention Unit highlighting the different forms of drug and effects of drugs on students, family, and society.
