The month of January is being observed as Drug Awareness month. The theme this year is “ Youth! Let’s talk about Alcohol and other drugs – A conversation that could change your life.”
In keeping with this year’s theme Dr. Kenneth Darroux, Minister for Health, stated that the Ministry will focus on Dominica’s youthful population addressing the drug issues such as alcohol and other substance abuse that plague our society and future. He further stated that through education awareness, the Drug Prevention Unit will focus on equipping young people with information on how to sharpen their skills on the refusal of drugs which will assist them in making the right decision towards drug-free lives, brighter futures, and a healthy society.
Among the activities planned for the month are village walks, through the villages of Trafalgar, Clifton, Woodford Hill, La Plaine, Pichelin, and St Joseph. Community Health Aid Drug Symposium, Exhibition, Drink Driving Campaign, Candlelight Vigil, March, and Rally are also some of the other activities carded throughout the month.
