The Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment, in partnership with the Kalinago Council, will host Kalinago Week 2026 from September 11 to 19. The observance celebrates the culture, traditions and life of the Kalinago, Dominica’s Indigenous people.
The full programme of activities will be unveiled at a media launch on Friday, September 11, at 10:00 a.m., at the Kalinago Barana Aute. Speakers will include Hon. Cozier Frederick, Minister for Environment, Rural Modernisation, Kalinago Upliftment and Constituency Empowerment; Mrs. Anette Sanford, Kalinago Chief; and Mrs. Alice Charles, Kalinago Development Officer. Representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and other partner agencies are also expected to attend.
As Dominica’s Indigenous people, the Kalinago are integral to the nation’s identity and tourism appeal. The Kalinago Territory, located on the island’s rugged northeast coast, offers residents and visitors a distinctive opportunity for direct engagement with the community, its history, language, cuisine, craft and daily life.
Throughout the week, the Ministry of Tourism and the DDA will amplify scheduled events across Discover Dominica’s platforms, sharing content that showcases this heritage.
Residents and visitors are invited to take part in Kalinago Week 2026, running September 11–19

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
