CIMH Hosts Satellite Data Training to Strengthen Disaster Risk Management

The Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH) recently hosted a two-day Technical Training on Satellite Data Utilization for Disaster Risk Management in collaboration with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The training, facilitated by JAXA experts Ms. Yuki Tanaka and Ms. Moeka Yamaji, provided technical officers from CIMH and CDEMA with practical experience in the use of Earth observation satellites, satellite-derived rainfall products, and other emerging technologies that support disaster preparedness, monitoring, and emergency response.

Officials noted that the knowledge and skills gained during the programme will enhance the use of satellite data in disaster risk management, helping to strengthen early warning systems and improve decision-making across the Caribbean during the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season and beyond.

CIMH expressed gratitude to JAXA, JICA, and CDEMA for their continued partnership and commitment to building regional resilience through science, technology, and collaboration.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
