Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency and MapAction have formally signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming their longstanding partnership aimed at enhancing disaster response coordination and geospatial information management across the Caribbean.
The agreement was signed during the Regional Stakeholder Consultation on the Comprehensive Disaster Management (CDM) Strategy: Charting the Path to a Resilient Caribbean 2030.
The renewed partnership strengthens collaboration in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), mapping, data sharing, technical support, training, and operational deployment support during emergencies.
MapAction, a UK-based humanitarian organisation, specialises in providing mapping and geospatial analysis to support emergency responders and decision-makers before, during, and after disasters. Through the partnership, CDEMA Participating States will continue benefiting from enhanced geospatial capacity, real-time information support, and improved disaster preparedness and response coordination.
Meanwhile, Day 2 of the Regional Stakeholder Consultation on May 15, 2026 focused on advancing strategic priorities for the region through collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based discussions.
Participants engaged in working group discussions examining the economic costs associated with advancing key sectors, while presentations highlighted important areas including CDEMA’s Regional Response Mechanism (RRM) and Disaster Risk Financing.
The consultation also featured a discussion session led by Disaster Risk Management Specialist and Policy and Programme Developer Jeremy Collymore, which encouraged critical reflection on strengthening resilience and regional coordination.
In closing remarks, Kester Craig, Deputy Executive Director of CDEMA, emphasized the recommendations needed to advance the CDM Strategy while encouraging participants to shift the narrative from “natural disasters” to “natural hazards.” He also highlighted the importance of leveraging the strength, trust, and data of regional academic institutions to support the Caribbean’s resilience agenda.
CDEMA and its partners say they remain committed to advancing innovation, data-driven decision-making, and regional resilience to help build safer and stronger Caribbean communities for future generations.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
