Partners with the South Huntington Public Library
for a National Caribbean American Heritage Month Celebration

PRESS RELEASE

Huntington Station, NY – April 2026 — The Caribbean American Poetry Association (CAPA) is proud to announce a partnership with the South Huntington Public Library (SHPL) to celebrate National Caribbean American Heritage Month. We invite the community to join us for this free public event on Sunday, June 7, 2026 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the South Huntington Public Library, located at 145 Pidgeon Hill Road, Huntington Station, NY 11746.

“The South Huntington Public Library is excited to partner with CAPA for our first National Caribbean American Heritage Month celebration,” said Catherine Schmoller, SHPL’s Director of Adult Programming and Publicity. “We believe that cultural activities are vital to strengthening our community. We look forward to working together to ensure the library remains a place where all members of our community are recognized.”

The celebration will include performances by award-winning poets: Abraham “Honest A.b.e” Benjamin, from Grenada who is also an author and musician; Burnett Coburn, a novelist and prolific dramatist from Jamaica; Empress Poetry, an award-winning Barbadian-born, Brooklyn-based author and performer; and, Berkley Wendell Semple, from Guyana, who is also widely known as a fiction writer, literary reviewer, and librarian. The authors’ table will feature the poetry books of the guest poets.

Live entertainment for the event will be performed by Praises in Steel, a steelpan ensemble and ministry band from St. David’s Episcopal Church in Cambria Heights, New York. Praises in Steel presentations showcase the vibrant calypso and reggae styles of Trinidad and Tobago.

“We invite the community to join us for a rousing National Caribbean American Heritage Month celebration which will showcase the cultural contributions of Caribbean-Americans through poetry, music, and literature,” said Dr. Beryl R. Williams, CAPA’s founder and president.  “We are excited to partner with the South Huntington Public Library for this exciting community event.”

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
