Workers, Employers and Government Now at the Same Table Under Historic Labour Milestone

Prime Minister Hon. Philip J. Pierre has taken another important step toward building a fairer, stronger and more people-centred labour market in Saint Lucia.

On April 29, 2026, Prime Minister Pierre, on behalf of the Government of Saint Lucia, signed ILO Convention No. 144, formally paving the way for the establishment of the National Tripartite Advisory Committee.

The Committee brings together representatives of the Department of Labour, the Saint Lucia Trade Union Federation and the Saint Lucia Employers Federation. Its purpose is simple but significant: to ensure Government, workers and employers sit at the same table when important labour issues and workplace policies are being discussed.

For Saint Lucian workers, this means a stronger voice in matters affecting jobs, wages, working conditions, rights, protections and general welfare. It ensures that the people who keep the country moving are not left out of the national conversation on labour policy.

For employers, it creates a meaningful platform to share their views, raise concerns and contribute to policies that support productivity, business growth and job creation.

For Government, it strengthens decision-making by ensuring policies are guided by consultation, cooperation and practical input from the people and organisations directly affected.

ILO Convention No. 144 is a key international labour standard that promotes tripartite social dialogue among governments, employers and workers. It encourages countries to maintain regular and effective consultation on matters related to labour standards, social justice and workplace development.

The signing of this Convention reflects the Pierre Administration’s people-first philosophy. It demonstrates a clear commitment to listening, consulting and building consensus in the national interest.

Prime Minister Pierre’s decision is significant because it strengthens trust and partnership within the labour market. It recognises that workers must be protected, employers must be included and Government must lead with fairness and balance.

Through the establishment of the National Tripartite Advisory Committee, Saint Lucia is taking a hopeful step toward a more inclusive, productive and just labour environment, one where workers are heard, employers are respected and national development is shaped through dialogue.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
