The prefect of the region of Guadeloupe and the ambassador of France to the States of the Eastern Caribbean chaired, on Friday, April 24, the 6th session of the Joint Security Commission between France and Dominica with the Prime Minister of Dominica, Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit. This commission is the privileged forum for dialogue between the two countries on security cooperation in the broad sense, including judicial, police, customs, immigration, and civil and maritime security cooperation. Around the table: Dominica’s minister of Legal affairs and the Attorney General, representatives of the judicial authorities and security services of Dominica, Guadeloupe, Martinique and Saint-Martin. This marked the proof of a hand-in-hand work between Dominica and the French overseas Departments. The priorities are clear: – Strengthen judicial cooperation -The fight against organized crime and illegal trafficking (weapons, drugs, human beings) that disrupts the Guadeloupean society as well as the Dominican society. – Address the new security challenges related to climate change – Strengthen regional cooperation in the customs and maritime fields. The exchanges were particularly fruitful, with the promise to review the existing partnership and new prospects for concrete actions in the future. The shared goal between the two countries is simple: to work more and better, together, in the service of the populations of the two territories.
