Kopounoule Inc., a women and youth-led social and climate justice organisation, is pleased to announce the successful completion of Priority One of its Kalinago Cultural Resilience Initiative. This initiative comprises three priority areas: the Escazu Agreement Awareness Campaign, Women and Adolescence Health in the Face of Climate Change, and Youth Mentorship.
The Initiative is funded entirely by the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition (LDYC). Kopounoule Inc. is one of five organisations selected to receive a grant of USD $25, 000 for its project proposal, a recognition of the organisation’s commitment to evidence-based, community-led development.
Priority One: Escazu Agreement Awareness Campaign
Under Priority One, Kopounoule Inc. conducted seven community meetings across the Kalinago Territory, engaging a total of 197 residents. The sessions were designed to assess the community’s knowledge of environmental rights, surface concerns raised by local groups and environmental organisations, and identify knowledge gaps to inform the design of future initiatives.
Conservationist Gary Auguiste facilitated the theoretical part of the sessions, highlighting the relevance of the Escazu Agreement to our communities. As part of these seven community meetings, a comprehensive social assessment was also conducted, identifying social concerns and possible solutions. This approach empowered communities to identify their priority areas, ensuring that efforts reflect the needs and interests of the community.
In keeping with its values of transparency and accountability, Kopounoule Inc. shared its ongoing project updates and financial reports at all seven meetings. The Minister of Environment was also invited to collaborate on these sessions, in the effort to ensure residents had access to diverse perspectives and accurate information to support informed decision-making.
Priority Two and Three: Health, Mentorship and Traditional Crafts
The organisation is making steady progress on Priority Two, which focuses on Women and Adolescence Health in the Face of Climate Change, with two more activities scheduled. Work on Priority Three, which includes a Youth and Women Mentorship through Basket Weaving, Kalinago Cuisine and Herbal Medicine, is also underway.
The basket weaving component aims to develop at least ten new craft products, adding value to existing products and attracting young generations to this traditional practice. Kopounoule Inc. welcomes collaboration and partnership with individuals and organisations who share its commitment to cultural preservation and community resilience.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
