TWO AWARDED MAHAUT PROGRESSIVE FOUNDATION INC SCHOLARSHIP

Nathan Stedman and Akim Esprit, two students of the Mahaut Primary School were on Monday 25th August awarded the Ashworth “Brong” Simon Memorial Scholarship by the Mahaut Progressive Foundation Inc to assist them on their journey to secondary school for the 2025/26 academic year.

The scholarship which will cover an initial period of two years, is part of the Foundation’s effort to recognize and memorialized the contribution of Ashworth Simon to the Mahaut community. Ashworth “Brong” Simon who passed away in July 2024 was a stalwart community leader whose dedication and commitment helped in the building of the Mahaut community across a number of areas including youth development, public education, sports, culture and cooperativism.

The two awardees who successfully completed the Grade Six National Assessment Exams in 2025, will both attend the Issah Thomas Secondary School.  They were both provided with text books and stationery, school uniform and support for other school supplies. They both also received learning devices donated by Emile “Paben” Serrant and Edgar Henry of the Mahaut community.  A number of other persons including family members and close friends of Ashworth Simon and members of the Foundation raised the required amount of funds to support the 2025 scholarship programme.

The scholarship programme now into its second year is part of the Foundation’s drive to provide support to students of the Mahaut Primary School and to encourage students and their families to take education seriously.

Speaking at the handing over ceremony, school principal Ms. Nola Stedman encouraged the students to take full advantage of the assistance being provided by the Mahaut Progressive Foundation. According to Ms. Stedman: “If people are supporting you in your education, please take it seriously and use it to your advantage”. She called on the students to work hard at secondary school, noting that she has the full confidence in both students to do well.

Also speaking at the ceremony were Foundation’s Interim chairperson, Mrs. Lucinda Alfred and member Sobers Esprit who both encouraged the students to make full use of the educational opportunity and to be role models to other young people in the community as they embark on their secondary education journey. The Foundation members also called on the students to be diligent with their school work and to demonstrate a high level of interest, commitment and discipline to school and community life.

The Mahaut Progressive Foundation is using this opportunity to appeal to the wider community and persons in the diaspora to contribute to the scholarship fund as it hopes to maintain the programme over an extended period of time to support the educational development and growth of young people of the community.  Persons interested in supporting the programme can contact Mrs. Lucinda Alfred at email: lucinda702@gmail.com or telephone 767- 235-9168.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English. Many desktop publishing packages and web page editors now use Lorem Ipsum as their default model text, and a search for ‘lorem ipsum’ will uncover many web sites still in their infancy.
