With this latest achievement, Matthews is tied with Australia’s Ashleigh Gardner for the most ICC Women’s Player of the Month awards, further cementing her status as one of the world’s premier all-rounders.

The 27-year-old Barbadian was recognized for her exceptional play during the white-ball home series against South Africa in June.

Despite the West Indies losing the ODI series 2-1, the opening batter contributed significantly with both bat and ball, scoring 104 runs across the three matches, including a crucial half-century in the second match, while also claiming four wickets.

Her standout innings came in the T20I series, where she led the West Indies to a thrilling 2-1 victory. She was named Player of the Series for her outstanding contributions of 147 runs with two crucial wickets with her off-spin bowling.

After a modest score of 19 in the curtain-raiser, match-winning showings of 63 not out and 65 in the second and third games, respectively, helped the team recover from a 0-1 deficit to claim the series victory.

On receiving the award, Matthews expressed her gratitude while maintaining focus on the pursuit of team success.

“It’s always a good feeling to be named Player of the Month and I appreciate the recognition from the panel. This past month was another strong one for me, and I was especially pleased with the way we played as a team to secure the T20I series win against South Africa.”

“Individual awards are never the goal, but they’re a reflection of the hard work that goes in behind the scenes. The focus now is on building momentum, for myself and for the team as we continue pushing towards bigger results and a stronger future for women’s cricket.”

Matthews has been a cornerstone of West Indies women’s cricket since her international debut at age 16 in 2014 and her Player-of the-Match display in the final was instrumental in the team’s historic 2016 Women’s T20 World Cup victory.

With this latest accolade, she continues to demonstrate her value to West Indies cricket. Her leadership and performances remain crucial as the team builds toward upcoming challenges in 2026 and beyond.
