Dr. Breha Diggs, a proud daughter of the communities of Bense, Anse De Mai, and Anse Soldat, has earned her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the prestigious Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM).
Dr. Diggs began her journey in medicine in Dominica, attending Bense Primary School before transferring to St. John’s Primary School. She later attended Portsmouth Secondary School up to third form, after which she migrated to the U.S., settling in Philadelphia.
During her formative years in Dominica, Dr. Diggs was an active and dedicated member of her community. She participated in the village’s Cultural Dance Group, the Youth Group, and served as an Altar Server at church. Her early dedication to community service planted the seeds for her future in medicine.
In the United States, her passion for medicine and the sciences continued to grow. She enrolled in a Biotechnology Program at Benjamin Franklin High School, then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Temple University. She later completed a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Sciences at Drexel University. Throughout her studies, she also worked part-time at Longevity Biotech, a startup biotech company. Starting as an intern, Dr. Diggs advanced to become the Senior Laboratory Technician, overseeing drug production and batch release.
Inspired by her mother’s career as a nurse, Dr. Diggs committed herself to becoming a physician to serve and advocate for underserved and minority communities navigating the complexities of healthcare.
She credits her success to the unwavering support of her parents, George and Juliana Diggs, her mentor and cousin Dr. Owahnah Quammie, her extended family, friends, and the people of her home villages, whose prayers and encouragement kept her going.
Dr. Diggs is now set to begin her medical career as a Transition Year Resident Physician at UCF/HCA Florida Healthcare Lake Monroe. She will later select a specialty in which to continue serving others with compassion and expertise.
In speaking with Emonews, Dr. Diggs shared:
“I honestly feel very accomplished and proud of myself for making it this far, and I am really looking forward to where my journey will lead me next!”
We extend heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Breha Diggs on this major milestone and wish her continued success on her journey in medicine.
