The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Blue and Green Economy, Fisheries Division through the Project for Strengthening Sustainable Use and Management of Coastal Fisheries Resources in the CARICOM Countries (COASTFISH Project) being funded by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will host participants from six OECS member states (Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada. Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) and Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) at Fort Young Hotel from 3rd June to 4th June 2025 for the Regional Seminar to conclude the COASTFISH Project.
Member states will be provided an opportunity to share their pilot activities’ outputs, good practices, and lessons learned throughout the project implementation between 2020 to 2025.
The Project is aimed to establish an approach to build sustainable co-management through pilot activities which could be disseminated to CARICOM region. The countries conducted pilot activities, such as installation of artificial reef, introducing of biodegradable panel to fish pot, sea moss cultivation, conch survey, coral gardening, fisheries facility management, fish processing, and gender mainstreaming to develop approaches towards sustainable co-management of marine resources in collaboration with fishers and fisheries authorities.
At the seminar, countries share their experiences and challenges faced during the project and discuss how to further expand the co-management approach to the regional.
